| Advantages︰ | But so far the main seaweed components that have really been widely published for their impact on crop yield and resistance to pest are the cytokinins. These natural compounds slightly differ from synthetic plant growth regulators such as kinetin, but close correlations between results in field trials with seaweed extracts and with kinetin were found on a number of crops, e.g. the yield of potatoes or the crude proteins content of grasses. Similar results were obtained with the reduction in the rate of color change of limes after post-harvest immersion of the fruit in seaweed extracts and kinetin solutions.
